  • What to Say and Ask During the Craft

    1. Start with the Theme of Togetherness
“This farm is full of life—everyone has a role. Who works here, and what do they do?”
“What do you think helps the farmer and animals feel like they belong to each other?”
Encourages children to think about cooperation, teamwork, and shared responsibility.
    2. Connect Effort to Community
“Why do you think the farmer works so hard?”
“How does the work he does help others?”
Teaches appreciation, gratitude, and empathy for others’ efforts.
    3. Use the Environment to Reflect Emotional Safety
“Where do you think the animals feel safest on the farm?”
“What do you think makes a home feel cozy for them?”
Helps children explore emotional comfort and what makes a place feel like ‘home.’
    4. Encourage Role Play for Emotional Understanding
“Let’s pretend you’re the farmer—what would you do to take care of your crops and animals?”
“What would the animals say to thank you?”
Strengthens empathy and emotional connection through imaginative play.
    5. Link Work to Care and Contribution
“Every time the farmer takes care of his land, it helps the whole farm. What are things you do that help at home or school?”
“How does it feel to help others?”
Promotes self-worth through acts of contribution and shared belonging.
    6. Model Recognition and Appreciation
“Look how much effort went into making this scene—you built something that feels peaceful and full of life.”
“The farmer’s work makes the whole community stronger, just like when you help at home.”
Validates a child’s role and reinforces identity within their own family or community.
    7. Talk About the Rhythm of Life
“The sun, the crops, and the animals all work together—just like families have routines that help everyone grow.”
“What are some things your family does every day that make you feel connected?”
Encourages awareness of supportive daily patterns that create stability.
    8. Reflect on Gratitude and Connection
“Let’s imagine everyone on this farm says ‘thank you’ for something. What would they be grateful for?”
“What are you thankful for in your home or school?”
Builds a foundation for emotional inclusion and gratitude practices.
    9. Teach Balance Between Work and Rest
“After a long day of work, the farmer relaxes and looks at his farm with pride. What helps you rest after doing something hard?”
Models emotional regulation and self-care as parts of belonging.
    10. End with a Message of Belonging
“Everyone on this farm has a purpose—just like you do. The farm wouldn’t be complete without the farmer, the animals, and the land.”
“When you care for others and do your part, you make the world better.”
Helps children internalize that their actions matter and that they are valued members of a greater whole.
  • Why It Works

The “And Belong” Farm Scene Craft uses Attachment-Based Therapy and Behavioral Activation Principles to nurture connection, gratitude, and identity through play.

By building and imagining a peaceful farm community, children explore how cooperation, effort, and care create emotional security and belonging.

    This activity supports:

    • Connection and empathy, through role play and shared storytelling.
    • Sense of purpose, by linking actions to positive outcomes for others.
    • Emotional regulation, through calm, focused crafting and reflection.
    • Identity and belonging, by highlighting that everyone’s role is valuable.
    • Gratitude and mindfulness, as children reflect on the support they receive and give.

The finished farm becomes a symbolic world of harmony and teamwork—reminding children that belonging is built through kindness, shared effort, and love.

    This project reminds your child:
“I am part of something meaningful. I belong where I am needed, loved, and appreciated.”
